Intermountain Health Psychology Intern in Salt Lake City, Utah

Job Description:

Located in the foothills of the Wasatch Mountains, Primary Children’s Hospital is the children’s hospital for Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada, and Montana. Primary Children’s Hospital is owned by Intermountain Healthcare and is the pediatric specialty teaching hospital for the University of Utah School of Medicine. Most of Primary Children’s behavioral health continuum is located on Wasatch Canyons Campus, approximately 20 miles southwest of the hospital. On Wasatch Canyons Campus are the inpatient/acute care unit, child and adolescent day treatment programs, child and adolescent intensive outpatient (IOP) programs, and the outpatient clinic.

Scope

  • This is a one-year position that includes completing psychological evaluations with patients ages 3-18 across the continuum of care (generally between 60-70 evaluations per year) and facilitating psychotherapeutic interventions in the outpatient setting. The fellowship therefore provides opportunity for further development of psychological testing skills across multiple levels of care, these assessments focused on diagnostic clarification and treatment planning--ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder and other developmental conditions, behavioral disturbance, cognitive/learning problems, case conceptualization. Treatment interventions in the outpatient clinic involve patients ages 3-18 with a wide range of developmental (e.g., autism spectrum disorder) and mental health (anxiety, depression, ADHD, behavioral disturbance) struggles. Telehealth will likely remain a component of the program for a portion of psychotherapy cases, although this is subject to change per COVID-19 developments.

  • On the child day treatment unit, our postdoctoral fellow has the opportunity to consult with a multidisciplinary team, participate in case conferences to aid in treatment and educational planning for patients, and work with day treatment teachers and outside schools regarding school accommodations. There is also an opportunity to serve as a member of our outpatient DBT team, including providing individual and family therapy, as well as co-lead a DBT multifamily skills group. The fellow will be involved in didactic trainings and seminars, and there are also opportunities to participate in various training activities associated with our APA-accredited internship program.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Psychology resident license from the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing (DOPL) by the start of the Internship.

  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.
