The Intermountain Healthcare residency program is an organized, directed, accredited program that builds upon knowledge, skills, attitudes, and abilities gained from an accredited professional pharmacy degree program. Intermountain's first year pharmacy residency program enhances general competencies in managing medication-use systems and supports optimal medication therapy outcomes for patients. Residents are expected to learn to provide comprehensive pharmacy services to ensure smooth consistent operation in accordance with governmental regulatory agencies, and corporate guidelines, policies and procedures. This valuable and rewarding residency experience promotes your knowledge base and is instrumental in developing confidence in pharmacology practice.
These are full-time, temporary, one year benefited positions which will provide training in acute care, primary care, managed care, drug information, practice management and drug policy development.
The purpose of the hospital residency is to develop the knowledge and skills needed to enable the pharmacist to effectively provide pharmaceutical care in a wide variety of settings. Five positions are available at Intermountain Medical Center, two at Primary Children's Hospital, three at Utah Valley Hospital, two at McKay-Dee Hospital and one at LDS Hospital.
The purpose of the Managed Care Residency is to help the resident develop the knowledge and skills needed to provide pharmaceutical care including the provision of rational pharmacotherapy and the delivery of appropriate product-related services to members of an integrated health care system. This position is affiliated with Intermountain Health Plans - SelectHealth and is based at the SelectHealth Care facility.
The purpose of the Community Pharmacy residency program is to develop highly skilled pharmacists in a variety of community-based care settings. This residency will support pharmacists with leadership skills necessary to run a successful business and develop a patient-centered pharmacy practice in collaboration with a healthcare team environment.
The purpose of the 2-year (PGY1&2) Drug Information residency is the same as the hospital purpose listed above for PGY1 and the purpose of the PGY2 year is to work within the System-wide Drug Information Service to develop their skills in formulary management, medication policy, literature retrieval and evaluation, and medication safety across the continuum of patient care. This position will be home-based at LDS Hospital for PGY1 and at the Corporate Office for PGY2.
Interviews for residency programs will be held in January and February. All applicants must register and participate in the ASHP Resident Matching Program and apply through the PhORCAS System.

- Graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy (degree will be verified).
- The resident must be licensed to practice pharmacy in the State of Utah within the first 60 days of the program.
- Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.
- Current knowledge of state and federal regulations and statutes regarding the practice of pharmacy and the distribution of approved drugs, controlled substances, and investigational agents.
- Hearing/listening, manual dexterity, seeing
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
- Pharmacy experience.
