Intermountain Health PRN Orthopedic Surgery Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in Ogden, Utah

Job Description:

PRN as-needed, Advanced Practice Provider (APP; Nurse Practitioner and/or Physician Assistant) job opening at a busy Orthopedic and Sports Medicine practice in northern Utah.

This APP will join the Orthopedic and Sports Medicine team on a PRN as-needed bases, primarily located at McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah, with potential to cover at Layton Clinic in Layton, Utah. The APP will work collaboratively with 11 fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeons and will assist in covering 15 APPs in various orthopedic sub-specialties. Responsibilities include seeing patients in clinic, assisting in surgeries, and rounding with patients in the hospital.

This is a part-time (PRN, as-needed) position, and is not benefits eligible. We anticipate this provider to cover APPs who may be sick, on LOA, or who are taking paid time off. Provider may be expected to cover after-hours clinic call, with hospital call coverage on rare occasions.

An ideal candidate for this role will have prior orthopedic experience.

Job Essentials

Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) are accountable for the provision of patient care at the top of licensure, within their scope of practice. Licensed, credentialed and privileged to perform such duties as:

  • Maintenance and promotion of health and prevention of disease;

  • Assessment, diagnosis, treatment, correction, and consultation;

  • Procedures as outlined by specialty, and referral for health problems;

  • Education of the patient, patient's family, clinical staff, and others;

  • Prescription or administration of prescription drugs or devices in accordance with a consultation and referral plan;

  • Consultation with other healthcare providers;

  • Appropriate and timely documentation of clinical care;

  • Continually learning and developing for optimal patient care and outcomes.

Advanced Practice Providers may also participate in research, utilize evidence-based practice to improve quality patient care, protocol development, care process model development, and best practice standards for assigned patient population throughout our organization.

Minimum Qualifications

Current state license as an Advance Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA).

  • and -

Certification as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.

  • and -

Eligible for State Controlled Substance License II through V.

  • and -

Eligible for Federal DEA Certificate II through V.

  • and -

BLS Certification for Healthcare Providers.

  • and -

Other certification as required (e.g. ACLS, PALS, TNCC, NRP).

Physical Requirements:

Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.

  • and -

Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.

  • and -

Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.

  • and -

Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.

  • and -

Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).

  • and -

May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

$53.77 - $82.97
