Intermountain Health Trauma Injury Prevention Outreach Coordinator in Provo, Utah

Job Description:

The Trauma Injury Prevention and Performance Improvement Coordinator works directly with the Trauma Services Manager or Coordinator to manage, maintain and coordinate the injury prevention and/or the performance activities at the assigned facility. The incumbent may function in a single or possible dual role depending on the facility's trauma level.

The Injury Prevention Coordinator position is responsible for injury prevention education and activities within the hospital and throughout the community. He/she will work in partnership with coalitions and agencies throughout local counties required by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and/or State of Utah for Trauma Center verification/designation.

The Performance Improvement Coordinator position is responsible for assisting the Trauma Program staff with trauma performance improvement activities as required by the ACS and/or State of Utah for Trauma Center verification/designation.

Job Essentials

If working as a Trauma Injury Prevention Coordinator, the following job essentials apply:

  • Ongoing analysis and evaluation of data for identification of patterns of injury in collaboration with Trauma Program Manager (TPM) and Trauma Medical Director (TMD).

  • Develop strategies and/or programs for the identified target group.

  • Provides patient/community injury prevention information/education based on needs identified.

  • Works in collaborative fashion with other hospital departments and community agencies on injury prevention within the community.

If working as a Trauma Performance Improvement Coordinator, the following job essentials apply:

  • Conducts chart review utilizing clinical expertise to aggregate, assess, and interpret information in order to evaluate the quality of clinical care, utilization of appropriate services, and adherence to Intermountain and ACS (American College of Surgeons) standards.

  • Issue identification, validation, analysis, and follow-up with loop closure to help improve clinical outcomes and patient care.

  • Prepares case review summary for review with TPM and TMD when events are identified.

  • Prepares extended case review summary for multidisciplinary peer review meeting in collaboration with TPM and TMD.

  • Participates in Trauma committees.

  • Assists TPM with follow-up and resolution of additional action items/loop closure identified during trauma committee meetings.

  • Enters patient specific performance improvement review data into trauma database.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution. Education is verified.

Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Utah.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers.

Current ACLS Certification

Other unit specific certification as required

Three years of experience in a trauma care setting (emergency or critical care nursing).

Basic computer skills.

Position Details

  • Shift: Full Time Exempt, 40 hours/week. Normal business hours, Monday - Friday. Occasional evening and weekend event support may be needed.

  • Additional Details: Licensed RN experienced required in a trauma, emergency and/or critical care setting. Ability to interact with public, build relationships and utilize excel and word programs effectively. In addition, have an interest in community events and injury prevention education.

Preferred Qualifications

TNCC (required within one year of hire/transfer into this job).

Supervisor or leadership experience.

Skilled in the use of office computer programs including spreadsheets.

Physical Requirements:

Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess patient needs.

  • and -

Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.

  • and -

Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, etc.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

$38.83 - $57.46
